2. Osama

Okay, so we've heard that Osama's dead. He was reportedly being shot to death and buried in the sea. Well, when i discovered the news, i wondered to myself.

Did he even existed?

If so he did, will his death make the world a safer place as what has been claimed? Was HE even really the mastermind of the attacks? Were there anyone else? or... all these while, was his disappearance was only used as a diversion from the REAL person behind the attacks?

His corpse being left buried into the sea.. Just because some do not want a shrine to be built on his grave. Ridiculous! He's dead, so why is his burial also a fuss?

I know many innocent lives were taken following the attacks and I am clearly against that.

One question which makes me wonder, who are the real terrorist?

There are also millions of innocent lives currently being killed in other parts of the world. Why isn't there any stop to that? Why isn't it a big deal? Could they just hunt down the specific person without sacrificing and taking risks that may involve women and children especially.

As these questions runs thru my head, i better head off as there are some errands to be done.

Not Enough of Grief

Following the recent Tsunami disaster in Japan, many countries have offered to help during the recovery period.

Now, there are issues of nuclear reactions where people are now being quarantined and worries all over the world of any possibilities of radioactivity.

Previously, we were all being awakened by NZ's quake disaster where the death toll was already actually quite high and that was still a recent incident. People haven't actually overcome their grief and now its Japan.

I'm writing this for all of the people in Japan.

In this case is the Esa'ala Cave in Papua New Guinea.

It has been a while. I have yet to update my most recent travel on which I went to the Maldives. I had made a point to myself to blog any of my travels.

Yes, initially, I had also told myself that I will scrapbook my travels. Heh. But due to some unforeseen circumstances, I have not started to do so and it has now been piling up. Sigh. I know it is not really of the 'unforeseen circumstances' here that is the main problem but I could rather say that it can also be considered as a lame excuse not to...or no time, or I'm-too-busy, or how/where should I start, or I'll-do-it-later kind of excuses.

Putting that aside, a very warm hello to my new followers! I was surprised having to open my blog this one fine morning to find some new faces on my page. You just made my day! :)

Ah well, life has been kind of lame for me. The only thing which made it interesting was my recent trip I made to the Maldives whilst visiting a friend of mine whom I met during my study years in Australia. I had never dreamt of going there as it is usually a family or a honeymoon gateway destination till the travel agents who I enquired for the tickets were quite surprised to discover that I was actually going alone. Ha ha.

I came across a very interesting article by David Zinczenko on the net about Milk.

Milk: Healthy and nutritious drink, or fattening, contaminant-filled menace?

Here are four milk myths you might have heard, and why you should consider answering the cowbell more often.

Claim #1: “Milk is a fat-burning food.”

The Truth: Maybe. In a 6-month study, University of Tennessee researchers found that overweight people who downed three servings a day of calcium-rich dairy lost more belly fat than those who followed a similar diet minus two or more of the dairy servings. In addition, the researchers discovered that calcium supplements didn’t work as well as milk. Why? They believe that while calcium may increase the rate at which your body burns fat, other active compounds in dairy (such as milk proteins) provide an additional fat-burning effect.

Claim #2: “Drinking milk builds muscle.”

The Truth: Absolutely. In fact, milk is one of the best muscle foods on the planet. Milk is full of high-quality protein: about 80 percent casein and 20 percent whey. Whey is known as a “fast protein” because it’s quickly broken down into amino acids and absorbed into the bloodstream—perfect for post-workout consumption. Casein, on the other hand, is digested more slowly—ideal for providing your body with a steady supply of smaller amounts of protein for a longer period of time, such as between meals or while you sleep.

Claim #3: “Cows are given antibiotics. Doesn’t that make their milk unhealthy?”

The Truth: No one really knows. Some scientists argue that milk from cows given antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance in humans, making these types of drugs less effective when you take them for an infection. But this has never been proven.

It is true that hormones and antibiotics have never been part of a cow’s natural diet, and they have been shown to have adverse effects on the animals. Canadian researchers, for example, discovered that cows given hormones are more likely to contract an udder infection called mastitis. If you’re uneasy, you can purchase antibiotic-free (and typically hormone-free, as well) milk from producers like Horizon and Organic Valley at most major supermarkets. The cows will certainly thank you.

Claim #4: “Fat-free milk is much healthier than whole.”

The Truth: Nope. While you’ve probably always been told to drink reduced-fat milk, the majority of scientific studies show that drinking whole milk actually improves cholesterol levels—just not as much as drinking fat-free does. One recent exception: Danish researchers found that men who consumed a diet rich in whole milk experienced a slight increase in LDL cholesterol (six points). However, it’s worth noting that these men drank six 8-ounce glasses a day, an unusually high amount. Even so, their triglycerides—another marker of heart-diseaserisk—decreased by 22 percent. The bottom line: Drinking two to three glasses of milk a day, whether it’s fat-free, 2%, or whole, lowers the likelihood of both heart attack and stroke—a finding confirmed by British scientists.

Frasers Hill

Fraser's Hill is about 105km north of Kuala Lumpur. It was built on seven hills, just like the ancient city of Rome. The hills straddle the Pahang-Selangor border. The hill resort was named after an English adventurer, Louis James Fraser, who built himself a shack in the hill in the 19th century. He operated a primitive mule train and embarked on a lucrative trade in tin ore.

Fraser's Hill rises 1,500 meters above sea-level on the Titiwangsa mountain range of Peninsular Malaysia.

To get to Fraser's Hill from the Gap, one must go up a narrow, winding, one-way road for 8 km. Traffic up and down is controlled by a gate system with uphill traffic limited to odd hours, and downhill traffic to even hours.

There are hotels, resorts and chalets available on the hill. Tudor cottages sit among brilliantly coloured gardens shaded by lofty pine trees. And so my friend and I went for a drive up there on a nice sunny weekend :)

X Ray

I was about to google something, and yes obviously i had to open the Google homepage and found out that today is the 115th Anniversary of the Discovery of X-Rays.

The Google wordings was simply captivating! on how they put it to relate it to 'X rays'. Creative and cute!

At first I was wondering what was the wordings all about. (Google would usually design its wordings according to some special occasion). I was being curious, so i Google-ed about X Ray. (Yes, as if i do not have any other work in the office. he he)

Some history of it:

As with many of mankind's monumental discoveries, X-ray technology was invented completely by accident. In 1895, a German physicist named Wilhelm Roentgen made the discovery while experimenting with electron beams in a gas discharge tube. Roentgen noticed that a fluorescent screen in his lab started to glow when the electron beam was turned on. This response in itself wasn't so surprising -- fluorescent material normally glows in reaction to electromagnetic radiation -- but Roentgen's tube was surrounded by heavy black cardboard. Roentgen assumed this would have blocked most of the radiation.

Roentgen placed various objects between the tube and the screen, and the screen still glowed. Finally, he put his hand in front of the tube, and saw the silhouette of his bones projected onto the fluorescent screen. Immediately after discovering X-rays themselves, he had discovered their most beneficial application.

Roentgen's remarkable discovery precipitated one of the most important medical advancements in human history. X-ray technology lets doctors see straight through human tissue to examine broken bones, cavities and swallowed objects with extraordinary ease. Modified X-ray procedures can be used to examine softer tissue, such as the lungs, blood vessels or the intestines.

X Rays has done us good since more than 100 years ago... Interesting huh?!

X Games / Sports

Extreme Sports. Im sure many of you have experienced or never tried any of the extreme sports activities. It depends on whether you love it or otherwise. It depends how extreme you want it or not. It requires endurance, guts and consistency (im talking based on my experience).

If you're the adventurous type, try it.

If you don't mind feeling the pain or rather post-pain, try it.

If you don't mind having the sudden adrenaline rush and heart-beats fast, try it.

All in all, i guarantee you'll have great fun!

I was curious how the X Sport came about so I Wiki-ed it.

The origin of the divergence of the term "extreme sports" from "sports" may date to the 1950s in the appearance of a phrase usually, but wrongly, attributed to Ernest Hemingway. The phrase is

"There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games."

The implication of the phrase was that the word "sport" defined an activity in which one might be killed. The other activities being termed "games". The phrase may have been invented by either writer Barnaby Conrad or automotive author Ken Purdy.

In recent decades the term extreme sport was further promoted by X Games, a multi-spaort event created and developed by ESPN. The first X Games (known as 1995 Extreme Games) were held in Newport, Providence, Mount Snow, and Vermont in the United States.

A history of the sports was published in 2004. Amped: How Big Air, Big Dollars and a New Generation Took Sports to the Extreme. The book provided an overview of the history, culture, and business of the sports and included interviews with athletes, company owners, and marketers.

Of Being an Alien on an Alien Land

Its my first trip i've been sent outstation for work purposes.
For all this while i've been travelling for leisure. Period.

My first experience setting foot to East Malaysia. Its actually amazing.
I landed Miri in the morning and had a flight to catch to Marudi later during the day. My first ever experience boarding a fokker. Ha ha. If the flight were to be 45mins i think i could throw up. A 20 mins flight succeded to make me feel just sick and nausea. (I can be affected by motion pretty bad you know - something about myself that I've just discovered).
The aircraft was stuffy and the fan makes noise as if its raining heavily hitting on an aluminium roof. You get what I mean. That kind of noise.

But somehow I aced it and went tru all that without any problems. Well, there were some minors. Slacker!
Overall, it has been an exciting day but pretty exhausting having to wake up in the wee hours of the day to catch the first flight out and i'm still not in bed yet fretting that I'll be missing Glee tonight.

The people here are so kind and talks as if i've known them for years! Surprising, but true! but I do get some looks and stares probably because they've never seen me here and im like an alien on their land. I'll adapt.

Ahhh well, its been a long day. Will hope to update more about this.(Dang i did not bring my camera).

A conversation happened earlier between my uncle and I.

Cutting it short, I'm putting 'U' as Uncle & 'Me' for Me.

U: Open Google and type in "IEM"
Me: Does that stands for Institute of Engineers Malaysia?
U: Just open it.

And so I opened it and yeah, as I thought the search results came out as what I told him earlier. All about Institute of Engineers Malaysia.

U: No.
Me: Why no?

Of Venting and Waiting for Any Changes to Happen

Being home has showed me some obvious differences in having to live in another country than the country where I come from.

For example:
1. When you are on the road, you will find some winding down their screens and out comes something from inside the car, landing straight on the road. Either it'll be a piece of small white paper (well, thats the colour you see when you're looking from a distant) or cigarette butts.
Sigh.

2. Still, when you're on the road. You're in the middle of a traffic queue at the traffic lights. Someone out of nowhere would come right beside you (without giving indicators are the worst cases) and jump the queue to fit between you and the car in front.

This also applies when you're not queueing at the traffic light, i.e. you are driving behind a long moving traffic and whenever there is a slightest gap, you know what'll happen. So go figure. it's not that I'm driving at 20kph, but you need to at least leave some gap in between right?!

3. You are on the rightmost lane on a highway and you are driving at the maximum speed limit. You'll suddenly find someone (only God knows where he came from) would nearly kiss your ass. Of course for obvious reasons you need to speed, and move aside. Should there be any collision, i'll be the first one to applaud. I'm not being mean, mind you.

4. In public toilets. I wouldn't want to elaborate about the cleanliness, because I'm sure many of you would have figured that out.
Im here talking on, yeh again queues. Well, my situation was, there wasn't an obvious queue. Its just you and the person in front, waiting for any of the cubicle doors to be opened and you enter when your turn comes. That's pretty obvious. But suddenly someone enters the toilet and waits right in front of one of the cubicle pretending you aren't there and walla, when the person inside is done with her business, she goes straight right in. Not even bothering that she should give way to you when she knows she came in later. Wth?!

Its a different story once you're inside, you'll find that there's signs that the toilet seat wasn't being sat on. Instead, it has been squatted on! - leaving shoe prints all over! (okay, its too depressing that i need to say a bit on cleanliness)

5. Pedestrian crossings. Its the norm when you are at a pedestrian crossing, when the lights turn red, you need to stop until the lights go green again. Here I am stopping, but as soon as the pedestrians have reached the other side of the road, you'll get honks from behind asking you to hit the accelerators. Again, wth? Im stopping because the lights are RED!!

6. Shopping malls/centers/supermarket cashiers. Give us some greetings pleaseeee! OR at least a smile! Who knows it might make someone's day! Well, some DO smile but not all. You can judge their sincerity through their looks. Pfffftt!

You see, some of these situations are kind of depressing. (Only if you agree with me, that is). There are like so many other things to elaborate on. So guys, if you do have any comments or anyone of you have experienced any kind of similar situations, please feel free to drop any. Its even okay if you want to vent and share your frustrations. Doesn't matter if you are Anonymus.

As I reached the office, as usual the first thing that I would do is switching on my laptop and checking emails.

As I was opening my emails, I was shocked to read the heading "Confirmation for reservation..." forwarded by a friend of mine.
I was like.."Since when did i make a booking or whatsoever?" and "Why is it coming from this person?"
Ohh and okay so I opened...It was a flight reservation confirmation of hers which she forwarded. A return flight from LAX-KL-LAX which will be scheduled in Dec 2010.

And so I asked her why would she forward me the email.
Her only answer was "Excited".

Of Starting and Pouring Out Ideas

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time now but I couldn't find the right time to even start. Well, i've got some of the basics but there are still some things missing.

So I've started work yesterday and today is my second day. As I arrived, I thought of Googling it which brought me to a quite useful blog.
Now that I'm home, I'll need to look for ideas on how to start and what to do as I progress.
I'm sure there won't be an end to it as long as I live.

As quoted by lil-lillix; "Once you start, you can't stop". Well, she sort of gave me a kick-start to it when she presented me as a farewell gift.

In about 24 hours' time starting from now I'll be on my way home. Leaving everything I've built here in the land down under for two years.
It doesn't seem like a long time; but it's indeed a huge leap for me.
Whatever i've done. Whatever i've shared and not to forget whatever i've achieved, i'll cherish it till the rest of my life.
I considered myself to be blessed - being surrounded by lovely yet 'crazy' friends (you know who you are) lol.

I never thought having to stay at a different country could be so enjoyable. Leaving your family behind is the hardest part at first as i have never stayed apart from them. Ever.
I've learnt so many new things and had the chance to discover this beautiful side of the world. Appreciating God's creation is the most important thing. That's for sure.

I'll cherish whatever I've gone through - all the ups and downs, surviving without having my family by my side and being independent in almost everything! It has also taught me in building up rapport and strenghtening up my skills in interaction and communication with people as well.
This was given to me by God. I thank Him for that.
Its Him who decides whatever my future is and whatever i'll turn up to be.
Its Him who we need to ask and pray to, hoping everything is for the best.
Him who knows whats ahead for me.

Yes!! Hello hello again! I'm back!
I was away and haven't got the time to actually update anything. I was away across the Tasman Sea to the Land of Long White Clouds - one of the best ever trip i've ever had.
It was just simply amazing!

I had to reply in an email recently about options of my preferred or desired dietary meals i.e. vegan, vegetarian, etc. etc.

Both the words 'vegetarian' and 'vegan' caught my attention. Well, im sure you'd know what it means literally but somehow i decided to take a closer look. So i Wikied it.

Vegetarianism is the practice of following a diet based on plant-based foods including fruits, vegetables, cereal grains, nuts, and seeds, with or without dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian does not eat meat, game, poultry, fish, crustacea, shellfish, or products of animal slaughter such as animal-derived gelatin and rennet. A vegan diet is a form of vegetarian diet which excludes all animal products, including dairy products, eggs, and honey. A lacto-vegetarian diet includes dairy products but excludes eggs, an ovo-vegetarian diet includes eggs but not dairy products, and a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet includes both eggs and dairy products. Vegetarianism may be adopted for ethical, health, environmental, religious, political, cultural, aesthetic, economic, or other reasons.

Vegetarian diets should not be confused with various non-vegetarian diets; "semi-vegetarian" diets may consist largely of vegetarian foods, with the addition of poultry or fish (pescetarian). The common use confusion between such diets and vegetarianism has led vegetarian groups, such as the Vegetarian Society, to note that such fish-, or poultry-based diets are not vegetarian.

Today was the 'best' training everrrrrrrrrrr!
Emmm..im still expecting the worse to come in the coming weeks. Yes, its getting tougher and tougher...

Funny thing is, i kind of enjoying every moment of it 'cept for the part of having to wake up earrrrly morning when mom is still fast asleep back home.

We did great! despite the crunches, mountain climbing, sprinting up hill, push ups, the A-B-C Abs just to name a few (there were heaps more!)
Ohh..not to forget, I loooove you both Cheryl and Kate for bringing up the spirit and strenghtening out our arms and feet. Hehh heh.

Thanks to AA and her husb for coming over. Spent the whole day...well, almost the whole Sunday with them! We had a blast! Really.

I've discovered a new site of spirituality from which they have told me about.
