Of Money, Waiting, Separation and People

Tea Tree Plaza was our first destination. Called Mom before leaving to make sure on anything particular she would want.
Upon arrival, there were already others waiting and loitering outside the doors in the plaza. As midnight strike, the doors opened.

So it was 12.01am. People were dashing through all the opened doors they could find in the plaza. In a split second, there were already people queing up at the cashiers. Most of the racks were almost, (well not obviously) empty.

Just as dawn breaks, we headed to the city. The pockets and purses and wallets were running dry. Done with everything, headed home to complete the delayed daily routine which was to sleep.
Sigh.

You'll never guess what we came up with for our tansportation. It shows off our desperation to shop. Hehe.

Boxing Day celebration. What a day. :)

When The Lion Falls in Love with the Lamb

Just watched and read Twilight.

Undeniably, the plot and storyline was awesome.
But not the acting. It was awkward. The space, the gap between, the actions, the words, the look, the face powder.
That was the first thing that got into my mind.

Watch it and you'll get what I mean.

Have You Watched Them Sleep?

Im not sure would you be able to read it by just deliberately reading it out straight from the screen or would you have to click on it to get a better read.

I got this from an email.
Its worth a read. Trust me.

Bag It, Play It and Imagine It

Went cherry picking earlier today at Stella Creek.
It was definitely fun! fun! fun!

Got a whole bag of cherries in the fridge right now.

Shortly after that, we transformed ourselves into kids where we went to St. Kilda's Playground. Mind you, there's also slides, swings, see-saw (this was the BEST part) etc. etc catered for adults and a separate one for kids! Who wouldn't say no to it right? We forgot our tiredness at the moment.
Came home, the exhaustion finally came about. Hahahahaaa!

Right now I'm imagining myself having the double-yummy prosperity burger of McDonalds. Yeah, its only in Malaysia.
On the other hand, I got an alternative to my external right now. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Outrageous

Out off everything that I've read, I found that this was the most interesting and should I say, 'outrageous'-Hotel Guests Request!

Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Fla.

A Turkish man dining at Cioppino, a Tuscan restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne, contacted the hotel’s concierge before meeting his girlfriend there for dinner.

He said he planned to propose to her that evening and the concierge to arrange for an airplane to fly across Cioppinio’s outdoor terrace with a banner reading “Will you marry me?” in Turkish. The concierge fulfilled this request, but unfortunately, the woman did not find him to be a Turkish delight. She declined his marriage proposal.

Envy is a Dog's Life

Dogs can sniff out unfair situations and show a simple emotion similar to envy or jealousy, Austrian researchers reported Monday.

Dogs sulked and refused to "shake" paws if other dogs got treats for tricks and they did not, said Friederike Range, an animal psychologist at the University of Vienna, who led the study into canine emotions.

"It is a more complex feeling or emotion than what we would normally attribute to animals," said Range.

The study, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, also showed dogs licked and scratched themselves and acted stressed when they were denied rewards given to other dogs.

Other studies have shown monkeys often express resentful behavior when a partner receives a greater reward for performing an identical task, staging strikes or ignoring what they view as inferior compensation.

It turns out dogs are able to show a similar, if less sensitive, response, said Range in a telephone interview.

In a series of experiments using different breeds of dogs, the researchers looked at how two animals sitting next to each other reacted to unequal rewards after handing a paw to a researcher.

Dogs not given a treat licked their mouths, yawned, scratched and showed other signs of stress and stopped performing the task, Range said.

To show this was not just because the animals were not getting food, the researchers then tested the dogs alone and found that in this situation the envious canines cooperated longer before stopping.

"It is really about the unequal distribution of the reward," Range said. "If it was only about frustration they would stop at the same time."

Interesting, aye??

Disastrous!

I had received an sms earlier today saying that "Landslide in Bukit Antarabangsa, 3 died, 100 trapped happend 4am this morning".

I was like..."What?!!! Again??!!!"

And so I opened a local Malaysian newspaper site to get the details.
True enough, the main road access into and from Bukit Antabangsa is now blocked. No access to food, etc etc.

Ohh, God willing. I just hope and pray that my cousins staying up there are all okay.

Of Hot Stars and The Chill

When we landed, as the back door opened, I felt a sudden chill coming from outside. The weather was showing a vast differenct from what I've experienced the past few days.
The past few days had been a total experience for me.

Did not think much about work.
Met uber hot cool 'stars' and characters.

And that's that.
Put the hot 'stars' aside. Put the characters aside, too.
Now I'm home and there's still a need to complete the uncompleted works. Sigh.
Change my thinking for a while and will eventually get to experience the REAL freedom by mid of the month. Well, at least I got till Jan :)

My should-I-call-it-an-experiment on Craigslist is still on the move. Will have to wait till its actually proven!

iPhone Talk

DON'T try saying "G'day" to an iPhone — it will think you want to search for a PA.

And if you ask it to be true blue, it will start searching for Triple A.

Google's new voice-recognition search tool for the iPhone has problems understanding Australian accents, leading to some bizarre answers to spoken queries.

Users down under have noticed searches for the word "iPhone" can return pages of results for "priceline", "mustang" or simply a message saying "try again."

007

Quantum of Solace is just about to be released here.

And so I was looking up about the Bond guy...

Daniel Craig likes being an actor because he can "dress up and show off".

The 'Quantum of Solace' star pursued a career which gave him the opportunity to flaunt his talents and wear outrageous clothes.

He said: "You get into acting for the chase. It's dressing up and showing off. Let's be honest about it, at its basic level."

Even though Craig admits he is an exhibitionist, he insists he will never become self-obsessed or arrogant about his talent.

He explained: "When you start believing in all that, you're in deep trouble. People talk to me about, 'How's it feel being sort of looked at as being sexy?' And I'm going, 'I have no idea what you're talking about.' That sounds like false humility, but it's not. Anybody who starts to think they're sexy immediately becomes unsexy."

Craig - who reprises his role as ruthless British spy James Bond for a second time in 'Quantum of Solace' - also confessed he has been involved in several physical altercations during nights out.

He added to USA Today newspaper: "Bar-room brawls? I've done maybe two or three, and I've never been particularly successful at them. They're always very quick, and then suddenly you're outside and you don't know quite how you got there."

For a sec there I'm thinking that he's one Hot guy. :)

What Were They Thinking?

Holidays are finally here. Friends and colleagues are going back either for the break or for good.
Its like i have just arrived here only like a few months and now its already end of the year.

Heck!Time flies.

But yay!! Its gna be a looooong break.

Something on the news:
Pakistani Police Raid Child Wedding

Police raided a wedding between a seven-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl in Pakistan's largest city, arresting the Muslim cleric officiating at the ceremony and the children's parents, a senior officer said.

The cleric had not yet begun the ceremony in Karachi , which was attended by 100 guests, said deputy superintendent of police Malik Mazhar.

Pakistan law forbids marriage below the age of 18, but some Muslim scholars say it is permissible if the bride and groom have reached puberty.

TV footage showed both children in traditional wedding clothes in the laps of policemen after the raid, the girl with tears running down her cheeks.

The parents said the wedding had been arranged to end an eight-year feud between the two families, according to a report on Express News TV.

Mazhar said he had heard about similar cases in rural areas but "it is shocking to have this right in the centre of the city".

The parents would be brought before a court, he said.

A Pakistan Human Rights Commission official, Hina Gillani, said the maximum possible punishment for the parents was one month in jail and a fine of just over $US10 ($A15).

So, it was a norm in the villages? And what were the people thinking???!!And that was 'just' the fine?!

W.O.G

This week would be the last week for classes for this semester! and yayyy!! Holidays are finally here.
I have never been so sad that this would be the last class.Unlike the previous semester, I was actually looking forward for classes to end.
But no doubt, of course I would still want a break right?!!

We had a celebration!!!!

Ohh..We had a field trip earlier today to Glenelg and Netley. And so was talking to my classmate and were kind of making jokes. But a joke with a compliment. My colleague had said that there was someone"old, grey and wise". He was referring to our lecturer!
He is a wise man, indeed.
And another friend of mine came into the conversation and somehow rephrase it to be "wise, grey and old" until he actually came up with an acronym for that-"W.O.G"!!!

Hahahahahhhh!! And we laughed.

Study vs Hobby

Friends who came over from KL are now back. So after a week of not-really-into-assignment-week, I have rest assured myself that I now would have to get into reality and to complete whatever is not completed. Cant wait for the sem to end, and look for a job.Temporarily.

Still thinking on studying a different course in a part-time basis apart from what im studying now.

Why not right?

Well, I will have to decide. If i do, will go for enrolment which is after Christmas.
Still have a month to go, to think and decide.

Ohhhh...I'm wanting for a wide angle lense.But.....................*sigh-ness.

Annoyed & Irritated

I did not make an extra trip to uni today,
its because I was annoyed. I could go if I wanted to, but I didn't.
I'll just wait for tomorrow.

Its not only I was annoyed by the friggin email she sent me, (well, I know its because of work, but HELLO! why me and not you?!!!)

but also,
she would interfere with my conversation with whoever - just because she wanted to know whatever she wants to know at that minute.
Why???Couldn't she wait??!!!!
I would infuriate and would roll my eyes whenever she does that and I once walked away.

Going Lower

KUALA LUMPUR: Petrol prices will be reduced by a further 10sen to 20sen from Wednesday.

RON 97 petrol is reduced by 15sen to RM2.30; RON 92 petrol is reduced by 10sen to RM2.20; and diesel is reduced by 20sen to RM2.20.

A post on the Prime Minister's Office website (wwww.pmo.gov.my) said the decision was made following the marked drop in the global oil price of late.

"The lowering of the fuel prices is also made to speed up the reduction of retail prices so that the people will be able to enjoy the benefits sooner," the post added.

The statement was signed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The previous two reductions were on Aug 23 and Sept 24.

I'm being positive here. Haha!

Backpack

I have been following the news of the search case of the missing Australian 21 year old backpacker, Britt Lapthorne.

She was a Melbourne University student.

Went backpacking, and was reported missing and was last seen at a nightclub in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

After 18 days of search, a body was found.
After DNA testing, the police confirmed that the body WAS of Britt Lapthorne's. She was reported to fall off the cliff over the cove where she was found.

But her family denied saying that she was "a good girl" and that it was impossible for her to either jump or fell off the cliff. It was impossible for such thing to happen. It has to be some other sort of accident.

The body is now in the process to be brought back to Australia.

Investigations are still going on, I think.

I know that this was a shock to her parents. Who would expect that you are going on a holiday trip and the next thing you know is that you might end up in deep trouble and worse, like what had happen to Britt.

Well, I would still love to backpack this summer. And yes, I know that anything could still happen.
So, anyone? ;))

On Sale

I hate it.

Tomorrow we're having an inspection.

Arghhhhh!!!! Its really stressful.
The house is on sale.

So need to put things tidy.

I just simply don't like it!

O2 in the City

And so I was reading a magazine while celebrating a friend's (well, there was two of them actually) birthday, when I came across a really cool article on which i took its site add. ;)

From Inflate.
One of its projects:
O2 In The City

Description of project:
The structure was initially commissioned by British Land as a permanently engineered structure to be erected in Broadgate Circus in the City of London. The design was to be a clear span space of 20m requiring no ground fixings.

Results: A truss system offering internal rigidity with a 12 part translucent inflatable cladding. The cladding panels had 2 door section and 2 circular roof light sections, and all the panels could be configured in any armagement allowing the structure to be erected to suit different functions from site to site. The trussing was engineered for suspending lighting and whole exhibition systems.

Why O2?
It was then acquired by O2 to promote their mobile phone service, and touring.

Well, some photos of the inflatable 'touring space':

Among other projects by Inflate are:
-Big M
-Smirnoff Cube
-Positive Pressure (I find this cool too!)
-Boeing
-Unipart
-Motorola

Well, I can assure you that they are as cool as this O2 project.
Check it out yourself!

Some events which had actually used Inflate in Australia. Click!
I hope they would commercialize it in Malaysia soon!!!

Fair Trade Beauty

Some amazing harvesting from indigeneous communities around the world for beauty remedy.

Guatemala
The harvest: Aloe vera
The story: Twenty-five farmers, from the Guastatoya co-op in the El Progreso region of the country, harvest, hand filter and process the aloe vera within 12 hours of picking to ensure optimum quality and avoid the need for preservatives.
The benefits: Renowned for its cooling sensation, aloe vera is the ideal choice for soothing sunburn. Sensitive complexions will also benefit from its healing and hydrating properties.

Namibia
The harvest: Marula oil
The story: Kernels from the native marula tree are picked, sun-dried, de-husked and cold-pressed by the Eudafano Women's Co-operative in North-Central Namibia.
The benefits: With high levels of anti-oxidants and fatty acids, this oil is perfect for dry or irritated skin, while continued use encourages healthy new cell growth.

The West Bank
The harvest: Olive oil
The story: With the olive branch symbolising peace, it's fitting that Canaan Fair Trade - one of the largest fair traders of olive oil in this politically unsettled territory - was founded by Palestinians.
The benefits: An all-round star performer in skin, hair and nail care thanks to its moisturising and protective properties.

Peru
The harvest: Brazil nuts
The story: Every year, between January and March, more than 1000 families travel down the Tambopata River and into the depths of the Amazon basin to gather nuts from the jungle floor.
The benefits: The oil extracted from this nut is full of vitamin E and has hydrating properties, making it an ideal choice for managing and repairing damaged and over-styled hair.

Lagerfeld Meets The Jetsons

When Karl Legerfeld meets The Jetsons!
Its now all the futuristic vibe on.

The Shoes.

And, yes, the shoes match quite harmoniously with the clothing presented on the runway. And I rather liked the overall lines and details of this collection. However, I do have my doubts on whether the flared ankle-cuff-cum-lampshade can match harmoniously with a real-life ‘modern’ wardrobe (as opposed to the runway fantasy version of the future seen here). After all, lampshades belong on lamps; anywhere else on your body and you’re likely to be the talk of the party.

So, sing with me:
Meet George Jetson.
His boy Elroy.
Daughter Judy.
Jane, his wife.

See, I can’t stop humming. It’s okay for you to join in, nobody needs to know.

(Well, it has been a while since we actually had The Jetsons on screen aite?)

Which was going to bed.

Raya Eve

I was browsing through facebook reading everyone's (well, almost everyone's Raya status).
Awwwwww....
It makes me sad ;((

I don't mind celebrating Raya with friends, but I could not accept the fact that I would have to attend classes on the first day of Raya. I know many of you peeps out there would probably say "Ohh...its just a day.Skip class!!"
But I just couldn't!!

This course is eccentric.A VERY eccentric one.I don't mind skipping other courses, but not this one.Once you do, you'll be left wayyyyyy behind. I mean wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy behinddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd.
That's how behind you would be left out.hahahahaaaa.

Well, I'm doing school work as I'm typing this.Celebrating Raya eve with a class in the morning and school work in the evening!

To all,
Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir Batin.
Eid Mubarak.

From Adelaide,

The Family Guy

An episode of the animated comedy Family Guy in which the grim reaper has sex with a dead girl has landed Foxtel in hot water with the broadcasting watchdog.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has found the episode, rated PG when it aired on Foxtel last year, should have been rated M.

ACMA said the episode entitled Death is a Bitch breached the subscription television code of conduct because it featured sexual references and violence exceeding the mild level allowed in PG programs.

The authority investigated the episode after receiving a complaint from a viewer who took offence to a scene in which the character Death has sex with a dead girl in the back seat of a car.

"ACMA considers that while younger children may not understand the reference, older children under the age of 15 years may do so," it said.

"And while the sexual activity depicted is considered to be discreetly implied by the animated depiction, necrophilia, even by way of an animated reference, contains an inherent impact higher than mild."

ACMA dismissed Foxtel's argument that the PG rating was justified because the episode was so unreal it could not be taken seriously.

Foxtel will reclassify the episode as M for future screenings and will review the classification of all other episodes of Family Guy.

They have been so controversial these days....

Well, called Mom this morning. They were going for a raya trip (I mean outside KL).For the first time. And that first time will be without me!
The first time in celebrating raya when I would have to rush to class right after meals.

Wedding Wishes

I have just got the most shocking news yesterday that another one of my good friend is getting married!!! omg im soooo excited! I was told tru YM and when I forced her to call me.

Its because I found out that she has been making free calls! And that was when I downloaded the program, yeah obviously to get free calls too. Who wouldn't right?I mean, its like international calls!! ;)))

And so I tried to call home but no answer.Haha.
I was too sleepy to wait for the local KL time that I went to bed.

I'm now quite in the raya mood now but still uncertain on how to celebrate it ;(

Ohh..can't wait for Raya since we had got excuse to come in late.Like there's soo much different. We only got 2 hours excuse.Gahhhhh~!!!!

One GOOD quote:
An English professor wrote the words, "Woman without her man is nothing" on the blackboard and directed his students to punctuate it correctly.
The men wrote: "Woman, without her man, is nothing."
The women wrote: "Woman: Without her, man is nothing."

You reckon its true?

Roar

Now this is what I call great 'roaring' photography!

I'm doing this because I'm feeling a bit disgusted right now, putting today's hectic experience aside.

But luckily a little bit of says from the ex-teachers some sort of made my day.

.........................................................

One Night!

I have been busy that I almost forgot to blog.
The break had started but not for me. A difficult course i'm taking. So was wondering how's Raya going to be like.

Anyway, had one of the best night when the monkeys were off the back!

Perfect

Compared to any other days, I have never felt that today would be soooo perfect!!
I do not know why, but I think it was a bless from God that everthing went smoothly well.
Ok I don't mean to exaggerate, but if you were to be in my shoes, I reckon that you would second my above statements.

It started from evening in uni (yeah,I like the fact that uni is not as congested as always because uni break had just started).
And went on till buka puasa and till prayers, and till I'd reach home.

I could not explain in words. It all went purrrrrfectly well and after such a long time I had never felt sooo good.

Alhamdulillah.

Ohh..raya mood is slowly taking over. The fact that I would be enjoying raya in class.Hahaa...!!and of course skipping class on raya had triggered my mind. ;)

Approximately about a week till Hari Raya! Hari Raya wayyyyyy far from the family. An eccentric experience for me, but I'll have to adapt innit?

Holiday Pile Up

Aghh.. the two weeks break had started but I'm taking a uni course for that duration.
Nevertheless, I still have assignments to be completed due after the break.

But I can't seem to find myself to get started on my current assignments and I'm sure it will pile up when the class during the break starts.

*Sigh.

Q & A

The Question:
how come when you film someone, you need them to sign a consent form...or when you take a picture of someone, you need them to sign a consent form for it to be used...but the paparazzi can take pictures of the celebritys, and they don't need to sign a consent form for it.

why is it illegal to put a video of some random joe on tv, but its not illegal to put a video of a celebrity walking into a club?

Answer:
Actually the reason is because when they are taking pictures they are doing it outside on public property.
You never see paparazzi inside clubs or restaraunts taking pictures and that is because the owner or manager will kick them out.
Odds are if they photo is inside a club or restaraunt it was probably taken by a bystander OR proffessional photographer hired by that celebrity or event promotor

You are allowed to take photos of anything as long as its a public place. If you happen to interview someone then you have to ask their permission to use the footage but if you were to take a video of someone walking across the street then there is nothing they can do because they were walking across a public street which is why its NOT illegal to put a video of some random joe on tv unless you invade his privacy by following him onto private property.

That is why paparazzi don't get in trouble for taking pictures of people outside.

Ever watch "Cops" if you were to compare an old episode with a newer one you would see that they used to follow people into houses and onto property.
What happened is they would get sued alot for violating a persons privacy, so they just told the camera crew to try and stay on public property.
thats why the show started to suck in recent years which lead to its cancellation.

Tips for women travellers

Something which might be useful in future... ;)

Be prepared
The better prepared you are, the more enjoyable and safe your travelling will be.
  • Try to acquaint yourself with the culture and customs of the countries you are visiting. Respecting local customs will help you avoid potentially dangerous situations.
  • Call home regularly.
  • Take a photocopy of your itinerary, passport, credit cards, traveinsurance documents and important phone numbers and keep them separate from the originals, in case of loss or theft.
  • Register with the nearest Australian embassy, high commission or consulate. The registration information provided by you will also help us to find you in an emergency whether it is a natural disaster, civil disturbance or a family emergency. You can do this on-line through Australian embassies, high commissions or consulates overseas.
  • Take a copy of the Department's brochure If you are the victim of sexual assault while travelling overseas.
Travelling alone
You face greater risks when you're travelling alone. If you decide to do so, you should take extra precautions. In some societies, men may take advantage of you if you have no obvious protector. This could take the form of hissing, pinching, passing comments, obscene gestures and so on.
  • Retain your composure and do not react, but remove yourself from the situation as quickly as possible, or go to the nearest police officer.

You could unwittingly find yourself in danger simply by accepting an invitation to go out with a man alone.

  • In societies where this is not an accepted practice, just saying 'yes' to an invitation may give the wrong signal and expose you to the risk of sexual assault.

Health issues

If you require regular or predictable medication while travelling, you should ask your doctor to arrange an appropriate supply. Care should be taken to observe the law in different countries with respect to possession of medications and it is advisable to take a letter from your doctor explaining your condition.

  • In some countries, medications which may be readily available in Australia are illegal.
  • If in doubt, check with the consulates or embassies of the countries you intend to visit to ensure that your medicines, and the quantities you will be carrying, are legal.

For your convenience and peace of mind, take enough feminine hygiene products and (if you use them) contraceptives to last you if you are headed somewhere where they may not be available.

Avoid becoming dehydrated. This is a common cause of urinary tract infections - a painful affliction when travelling. Dehydration is a particularly serious risk in hot climates and you should drink plenty of bottled water - being careful to check the seal on bottles first.

A Billion Dollars Would be Good...

Earlier this year, Nepal voted to eliminate its 240-year-old Hindu monarchy, and former king Gyanendra was forced to turn over his royal palace in Kathmandu, which has become a museum.
So far the 15 rulers on our list have held on to their riches, despite controversy ranging from tax evasion to the dissolution of parliaments in Swaziland and Kuwait. As a group, the world's 15 richest royals have increased their total wealth to A$152 billion, up from A$110 billion last year.

At the top of our list is Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose A$40 billion estimated net worth is up sevenfold as a result of increased transparency of his Crown Property Holdings. He takes the top spot from the only other Asian monarch on the list, the Sultan of Brunei, worth A$23 billion, one of only two rulers worth less than they were last year. The sultan, who inherited the riches of an unbroken 600-year-old Muslim dynasty, has had to cut back on his country's oil production because of depleting reserves.

Doomsday Fear,so its Suicide

Ok....as a continuation from the post below or shall I say the consequences for the experiment:
Suicide.

Yeah...I was shocked. Someone fearing that the world would end had first ended her life by drinking pesticide.
A girl, 16 years of age, from India.
Her name was Chayya.

She killed herself after watching doomsday predictions showed on Indian news programs.

Super and Spectacular-ness

Particle physicists have fired up the world's biggest atom-smasher in a mission to answer some of the most perplexing questions about the nature of the Universe.

Built in a tunnel 100 metres below ground in a complex straddling the French-Swiss border, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is designed to accelerate sub-atomic particles to nearly the speed of light and then smash them together.

The collisions will briefly stoke temperatures 100,000 times hotter than the sun, fleetingly replicating conditions which prevailed in split-seconds after the "Big Bang" that created the universe 13.7 billion years ago.

In this seething primordial soup, novel particles may lurk.

Discovering them could resolve mysteries clouding our understanding of how matter is constituted and came into being, scientists say.

"It's about acquiring knowledge for humanity about the behaviour of fundamental matter," physicist Daniel Denegri told AFP.

"We expect to make discoveries that could be rather spectacular."

Shortly after 9.30am Wednesday (1730 AEST), the first protons were injected into the 27km ring-shaped tunnel at the headquarters of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN).

It has required nearly two decades, six billion Swiss francs ($A6.64 billion) and 5,000 scientists, engineers and technicians from nearly three dozen countries to bring the LHC to fruition.

Wednesday's operation began a long and cautious commissioning process, testing equipment and procedures, before starting experiments a matter of weeks from now.

Spectacular-nesss!!!
